Principal’s Message

Last week our students in grades 3-6th finished taking the ELA MCAS.  All students did their best, but were happy to be back into a routine this week.  We still have a couple more rounds of testing to go for Math and 5th Grade science.  We will keep you posted.

In addition, this past Friday night PTO hosted the Gates Robotics Fair.  I love this event; students come prepared to share their learning with others and its an opportunity to interact with simple and complex robots.  We also had many presentations from students who participate in outside robotics clubs, and wow, they had a lot to share!

I would also like to congratulate Becky Acheson, 5th grade teacher at Gates for 20 years in the AB system.  She has been a valued member of our community for many years, and we are very lucky to have her on staff! Congrats Becky! 😊

This week our students in 4th grade participated in the Sky Dome Planetarium. Students huddled under a large portable, inflatable tent and went on a journey through the universe.  Pretty cool!

Students in 5th grade participated in a wetlands presentation to support their learning.
Finally, as a reminder we do not have school tomorrow in observance of Good Friday. Happy Easter to all who celebrate this Sunday.

6th Grade Families
From Jim Marcotte, Junior High Principal:
On Wednesday, April 29th at 6:45 pm, we will be hosting an in-person 6th Grade Family Information Night designed to inform parents and guardians about the Junior High School. This event will take place in our Dragonfly Theatre (RJ Grey Auditorium). The presentation is planned to last under one hour, and I will explain the school’s teaming model, how we support students and families in the transition, and some basic “nuts and bolts'' about course registration. At the conclusion of the whole group session, families are welcome to chat with some of our teachers and department coordinators in our lobby area.
