Student Activities

Amazing Programs

Amazing Programs are held before or after school. They are an enrichment program for students in kindergarten through grade six. For a fee, student may choose to sign up for these classes that run for eight weeks. A variety of fun and interesting activities have been offered in the past such as embossed art, figure drawing, basketball, chess, cooking, and jewelry making. A schedule of offerings is sent home periodically throughout the school year. To join, students must submit a payment and permission slip completed by a parent/guardian.

Student Council
Every fall, our school elects a Student Council with representatives from grades three through six. The Student Council plans and facilitates community service projects, plans and runs a carnival night, and helps to run the school store. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month before school. Elected classroom representatives report information to their classrooms and chair projects and events. Students who are not elected classroom representatives may also attended meetings as part of the Student Council.

Last year student council members worked hard to organize both a towel drive and a blanket drive for the Household Goods Recycling Ministry. At the end of February, the student council organized a coin drive to benefit animals in need. Student Council members also ran the annual Student Council Carnival. The Student Council is currently under the direction of two parent advisors, Barb Tibbetts and Chris Fenniman. For more information, see the September Gazette.

Last year, the chorus visited and performed for two nursing homes, Robbins Brook Senior Living Community and Life Care Center of Acton. If you are a student interested in joining the Gates School Chorus or Select Chorus, then please contact Mrs. Ward.

Band rehearsal is held once a week during school and currently takes place on Monday morning. Band members take part in several performance throughout the year, including Gates School concerts and the Memorial Day Service.
